This program is designed to prepare students for healthcare career opportunities in the area of patient care technician. This program provides the student with a broad foundation of knowledge, skills and practical experience to work in a variety of medical settings. Emphasis is placed on developing multi-skill patient care services in the areas of advanced nursing assistant techniques, hospital patient care, home health aide, long-term care, residential care, phlebotomy, electrocardiogram, patient therapy and restorative care.
Ensuring patient's rights and respecting patients as persons with dignity and value are attitudes conveyed throughout the program. Basic emergency care, health and safety are an integral part of this program.
Students will learn the role of the patient care technicians in different health care settings (i.e., hospitals, nursing homes, patient's home). Program objectives:
- Introduce students to the practice of patient care procedures and techniques in different health care settings.
- Introduce students to the role and responsibilities of the nursing assistant/home health aide.
- Implementing emergency procedures as required.
- Performing EKGs and Phlebotomy assignments.
Upon successful completion of all courses, you are required to participate and complete an externship course. This externship will provide you with the opportunity to interact with patients and apply the principles and practices learned in the classroom.
