This program is a good fit for people who want a fast track to prepare for employment in the medical field and who enjoy helping others and working with people. Medical Assistants work side-by-side with both physicians and professional medical personnel in private practice, clinics, rehabilitation centers, hospitals and other heath care settings. Medical Assistants perform the administrative and clinical tasks that keep these medical facilities running smoothly.
Students will learn the role of the medical assistant in different health care settings, including how to perform the following medical assisting functions:
Clinical Procedures
- Preparing patients for examination.
- Assisting physicians during patient examination.
- Patient care and communication.
- Preparing and maintaining the examination treatment areas.
- Measuring and recording vital signs.
- Performing routine laboratory tests.
- Sterilizing and maintaining equipment.
- Implementing emergency procedures as required.
- Closely supporting physicians by providing assistance.
- Performing EKGs and Phlebotomy assignments.
Administrative Procedures
- Medical office management.
- Updating and filing patient records.
- Scheduling appointments.
- Handling correspondence.
- Bookkeeping and accounting.
- Working with insurance claims, including billing and coding.
- Collections of accounts receivables.
Upon successful completion of all courses, you are required to participate and complete an externship course. This externship will provide you with the opportunity to interact with patients and apply the principles and practices learned in the classroom.
